Hate your CPAP machine? You may have other options!

“There is no way I can wear that CPAP mask”. As a physician, board certified in sleep medicine, I have heard that too many times to count. The truth is that I couldn’t wear it either. In fact only about 50% of patients prescribed a CPAP machine will use it successfully. Unfortunately, patients are usually not offered any other alternative and are simply labeled non-compliant. They go night after night with non-restorative sleep and end up with a long list of medical issues including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and dementia.
At Sinus and Snoring Specialists we take a comprehensive approach to finding a cure that will work for you. CPAP may be the right choice for many. Many other patients have correctable anatomical issues that can be addressed. Simple office based procedures under IV sedation such as Balloon Sinuplasty can help open the nasal airway and reduce sleep apnea and snoring. Minimally invasive techniques can be used to elevate and stiffen the soft plate. Oral appliances can be custom fit to help keep a large tongue base from causing sleep apnea and snoring. Endocrine consultation can help with metabolism and weight loss. Sleep hygiene issues, such as body position and pillow type, can also assist. We work together on these issues explaining to the patient which issues need to be addressed in their particular situation. Follow up home sleep testing also helps us measure our success.
If you cannot use your CPAP machine do not give up and go untreated. Find more information here, or call us for a consultation and lets work together for a cure that fits you.
